Welcome to the Department of Neurological Surgery
Welcome to UC Irvine Neurosurgery. I was recently named as Interim Chairman of the Department of Neurological Surgery. This occurred at a particularly exciting time in our history. The Residency Program in Neurological Surgery was accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) in 2008 and the first group of residents began their training in July 2008. At that time, we had three residents at the PGY1, PGY2, and PGY3 levels. This year, we have added another resident at the PGY1 year, and so we now have a total of four residents. The program stresses a wide variety of clinical activities at multiple sites including UC Irvine Douglas Hospital, Children's Hospital of Orange County (CHOC), Kaiser Foundation Hospital (KFH), Anaheim and Hoag Hospital, Newport Beach. We believe that the support of our affiliated hospitals adds a significant breadth and depth to our program.
We have excellent programs in neuro-oncology, epilepsy and movement disorders, cerebrovascular surgery and spine surgery at UC Irvine Douglas Hospital. CHOC is a busy pediatric hospital, KFH offers a large and diverse variety of cases, and Hoag is the center for Gamma Knife experience. There are active research labs and protocols in neuro-oncology, epilepsy, and spinal cord injury. We welcome any inquiries about our programs.
